You learn something every day! Did you know that if you sliced and cooked 2 medium size potatoes in water, drained them and saved the cooking liquid and then drank it, you would quell excessive hunger? Everyone is trying to make sense of eating, diets and losing weight. Yes it's true that there are millions of people who eat beyond what they should. We hear it everyday in the news and certainly can see it too, some people are just too big and because of this not healthy. It can be a burden on the medical system and add a cost to the economy. For many of the overweight the problem might be decreased if attention was paid to "Eating Right for Your Metabolism".

"Eat Right for Your Metabolism" written by Felicia Drury Kliment, the author of the Acid-Alkaline Diet, is a new book exploring foods that are easy to digest and that can be broken down into components that can be utilized by the body. On this premise, in the long run, you will keep weight off and maintain a healthy body. You may be affected by heredity and ancestral dietary traditions, which may influence your genetic makeup. Abandoning traditional diets of any particular culture may cause all sorts of health problems and weight gain. Just think how many people have immigrated to the western world and started eating pizza, French fries, hamburgers and ice cream, also think how now these people may have health problems and are overweight. Whytheir metabolism was that of a grain eater and now they are meat eaters, the body can't handle the change!

To help you understand this book and its concept you need to take a few simple tests to determine what your metabolism is. Have you every had a high blood sugar reading after having your blood checked during a physical? Did you know it may have been because of what you ate or drank and that you can control it through exercise and diet! It's all in this book along with different meal plans to fit your metabolism. There are only 26 recipes in this book and they look good, with appropriate ingredients and portion sizes. You can always use your own recipe and fit it into the suggested meal plans and everything will still work. This book isn't a diet book! Read, learn and understand is the principle, and you can shed pounds, and then maintain your ideal weight without dieting! You will learn how to conquer health problems such as depression, headaches and chronic fatigue and stave off cancer, diabetes and prevent heat disease.

What did I learn? Eat a piece of raw potato before a meal, especially one that might be acidic such as tomato sauce pasta and the potential for a sour stomach after the meal will be diminished. I also learned that if you are a meat eater and live in the Gascony region of France, your risk of heart disease my be lower because of eating duck and goose fat! Enjoy the book and its recipes.

Salmon Filet with Mango Cilantro Salsa

4 6-ounce portions salmon filet

Mango Cilantro Salsa
1 ripe mango, peeled and 1/-inch diced
1/2 cup chopped scallion, green part only
1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
1 tablespoon finely diced fresh jalapeno
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
1 small clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil

Bake salmon filet at 400 F for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the salmon. For Mango Cilantro Salsa, lightly toss all ingredients in bowl. Chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour for flavors to meld. Serve salsa as an accompaniment to salmon. Mango Cilantro Salsa also goes nicely with grilled meat or chicken.
